FG Wilson (Engineering) Ltd is a pioneer in the design and manufacture of diesel and gas generator sets.  For over 40 years, FG Wilson has been a global player and world leader in the provision of power generator solutions.  Their global production facilities extend to Brazil, China, India and the USA but its origins and headquarters are located in Northern Ireland with premises at Larne, Springvale (Belfast) and Monkstown.  The company has over 3,000 employees with manufacturing facilities covering a footprint of 185,000m² within which more than 80,000 generator sets are manufactured each year.  Albert Fry Associates have been continuously involved since 2002 at Monkstown in terms of the design of adaptations to the plant to meet our client’s ever-evolving needs.  Similarly we have been involved in numerous schemes at the company’s Larne Plant over a ten year period.
Our structural engineering input included the design of the high-rise steel frame factory premises and the substructures which were significantly complicated by sumps, ducts etc associated with the specialist equipment (folding presses, sheet metal handling plant, guillotines, robotic arms, paint booths etc).
The civil engineering elements to the scheme included the re-alignment and widening of the Doagh Road in the vicinity of the plant, the construction of deceleration lanes and dedicated right-hand turning lanes at the entrance to the site.
