Founded in 1982, Randox Laboratories Ltd is a privately owned company and is the only manufacturer of clinical chemistry diagnostic reagents in the UK.  In addition to its headquarters in Crumlin, the company has offices in a further 12 countries worldwide and has sales and distribution facilities in some 130 countries.  Almost 90% of its output is exported and this has led to Randox being awarded the ‘Queen’s Award for Export” four times.  The company currently employs in the order of 500 people.  Research and Development is central to the company’s philosophy where it invests 35% of its annual revenue in developing new and innovative products.

The company operates currently from disparate sites in the south of County Antrim and it is their intention to centralise their production facility at a new-build plant off the Largy Road, Crumlin.  This new plant will include both production facilities (clean room, research and development, production, dispatch, goods-in, laboratories etc) and administration accommodation.  It is to be constructed on a “green field” site of some 7 hectares with new access to the Largy Road.  The building itself will have a gross floor area of 20,000m² including 7,500m² of first floor accommodation.  External works will include a significant earthworks and grading exercise to level the site which is of a sloping disposition.  Extensive hardstandings for lorry circulation are to be created along with new employee and visitor carparking.
