The scheme included the demolition of the existing Nazareth Lodge on the Ormeau Road/Ravenhill Road junction (a seven storey landmark building in South-east Belfast) and the fast-track design and construction of a 72 bedroom nursing care facility.
The complex comprises six ‘streets’ based around an arterial glazed walkway, each independently fitted out with dining and healthcare facilities to allow independent operation as required. Within the bounds of the walkway is an independent chapel with a main aspect onto a landscaped interior courtyard. A two storey services block, including laundry, kitchen and plant facilities and a single storey curved administration block also link to the walkway to complete an extensive facility.
The accommodation wings were achieved in loadbearing masonry with timber trussed rafters. The two storey non-cellular elements and the single storey central chapel were achieved in structural steel framing.
