Queen’s Square and Custom House Square, since their launch in May 2005, have become Belfast’s premier outdoor events space for music festivals, theatre performances, street carnivals and corporate functions. It is finished in high quality natural stone and is enhanced by attractive lighting and water features which trace the course of the River Farset as it runs along the edge of the square from the Albert Clock. The square is flanked to the West by the Albert Clock, to the North East by the fantastic and historic Custom House itself and to the South by the Queen’s Square Apartments, who’s design reflects its majestic backdrop.
The apartments themselves provide for 90 individual dwellings over one level of underground and one level of undercroft carparking. The construction is in insitu concrete clad in masonry, feature glazing and natural timber. Given the nature of the proximity of surrounding historic buildings and monuments, low disturbance construction techniques were employed from the outset.
