Wind Turbines

Albert Fry Associates have provided civil engineering consultancy services for the provision of wind turbines across Northern Ireland.

Our involvement covers feasibility studies, liaison with Road Service, preparation of health and safety files and collaboration with contractor throughout construction.

Civils design can include specification requirements for site access, vehicle autotracking and makeup of laneways and areas of hardstanding.  We also have considerable specialist experience in the structural design of each foundation base which is undertaken to suit the turbine loads and ground conditions at each individual turbine location.  Detailed Finite Element Analysis is utilised to determine ground pressures and minimise reinforcement requirement which is quite often dictated by the turbine fatigue loading criteria.  To date AFA have completed 50+ turbine base designs for a variety of Clients and turbine types with hub heights up to 60m and continue to be engaged in an ongoing programme of turbine upgrades and replacements.

Albert Fry Associates are proud to help Northern Ireland meet it’s renewable energy target of 40% by 2020.
