Park Bridge Widening and Realignment

Our involvement on the upgrading of Park Bridge, Park, Co. Londonderry included the design, detailing and construction supervision for the widening and realignment of an existing masonry bridge over the Faughan River.

Widening of the existing masonry arch was achieved by means of a precast concrete ‘matière’ arch structure on piled foundations with precast concrete faced reinforced earth engineered backfill. Natural rubble stone work was used to face the precast panel spandrels to match the masonry of the original bridge.

A replacement random rubble stonework parapet wall was provided and realignment of services and drainage was undertaken. Our designs were subject to and gained Roads Service TAS approval for this category 3 structure.

Health and safety and environmental risk assessments were undertaken to address the open-water hazard and to prevent pollution of the watercourse. Close liaison with NIEA, Rivers Agency and Loughs Agency was undertaken to obtain permission to undertake the works in this stretch of important salmon and sea trout habitat.
